Excavations in Somma Vesuviana (NA), ITALY

In this area we continue the excavation layer by layer to know how did they used this area and to reconstruct its chronological sequence.

And the excavation still goes on....

We finished the excavation in the cistern.
We could revealed only a part of the west wall of it. So the dimensions of it are unknown yet.


On the bottom of the cistern we found that the floor was renovated at least once.

We found some huge pots in the north end of the excavation in 2008 and 2009.
We filled them up with lumps of inflated clay to prevent from its collapsing.

Through this work we could measure the capacity of each of them also.
The average capacity of them is about 1,500 liters.
